  • Wake Forest begins the 2017-18 regular season with a matchup against Georgia Southern in the Deacs’ annual LJVM Classic game
  • The game is the first of seven home non-conference games for the Demon Deacons


  • Wake Forest leads the all-time series 3-0, with all three games at home (1-0 at LJVM Coliseum)
  • The Deacs won the last matchup, 81-72, in the second game of the 2011-12 season
  • Wake Forest also downed the Eagles during the 1978-79 and 1985-86 seasons


  • Tonight’s game is the fifth annual LJVM Classic game, as Wake Forest honors active military and veterans on Veterans Day weekend
  • The Deacs have won all four previous games, defeating VMI in 2013-14, UNC Asheville in 2014-15, UMBC in 2015-16 and Radford last year
  • The game honors Winston-Salem’s first and only Medal of Honor recipient, U.S. Army Sargeant First Class Lawrence Joel, who has long been recognized as a symbol of valor

  • Wake Forest is 80-30 in season openers, having won the last six
  • Since 1951-52, Wake Forest is 56-10 in home openers, including a 27-1 mark at the LJVM Coliseum, having won the last six
  • The Deacons are opening the season at home for the 14th straight year


  • Wake Forest concluded the preseason with a 76-74 exhibition victory last Friday against Queens, the preseason No. 2 team in Division II
  • Keyshawn Woods led the Demon Deacons with a game-high 21 points
  • Terrence Thompson nearly posted a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds
  • Bryant Crawford (14 points) and Brandon Childress (12 points) also scored in double figures


  • Junior Bryant Crawford is one of 20 players on the preseason watch list for the Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the nation’s top point guard
  • He averaged 16.2 points and 5.5 assists a game last season and is the only returning player from a power conference to average at least 16 and 5.5 in 2016-17
  • Last year he became the first Demon Deacon to amass 500 points and 150 assists in a season since Randolph Childress in 1994-95
  • Crawford joined Chris Paul and Ish Smith as the only Demon Deacons to have over 300 assists during their freshman and sophomore seasons
  • He will enter the season on a career-long four-game streak of 20-point games
  • Crawford’s streak of 24 consecutive double-figure scoring games is the longest active streak in the ACC


  • The Demon Deacons conclude a season-opening two-game homestand by hosting Liberty on Tuesday
  • Game time is 7 p.m. and the game will be available on ACC Network Extra
  • It marks the second all-time meeting between the schools, with Wake Forest winning the first meeting in 1997-98
  • The teams could meet again later in the week as both are in the field of the Paradise Jam, which is now being held at Liberty due to the hurricane damage in the U.S. Virgin Islands
